About john hohnstein -- "Mystic Machine"
Born and raised in Denver, John's musical journey started at the age of 6
when he began piano lessons. Even at this age, his first piano teacher told
his mother that he had the makings of a great concert pianist. John
remembers hating to practice, preferring to goof around and "make up his own
music". Lessons continued with several different instructors off and on
through his college years. When he was in junior high John took up trumpet
and played with distinction in concert bands and orchestras through his college years, where he gained a profound appreciation of
the great compositions of the true masters of the art of music. At the age of 16 John began to write and
compose solo piano works and songs that began to set the tempo for his
compositions today.At the age of 24 John joined his first rock band playing
keyboards. He quickly became a proficient and valued member of three
locally successful working bands in the 1970's where he really "polished
his licks" and developed into a great rock keyboardist. Among the bands
were Banshee 1971-1973 (rock), Tara 1973-1975 (jazz/rock fusion), and
Tales 1977-1978 (progressive rock). In 1999 John had two of his songs on
mp3.coms national top 40 chart for several weeks, giving him his first taste of
'national exposure' and was the #1 artist listed on the Colorado chart for the
same period.
It is from all of these influences and experiences that John draws from and
benefits by when using his learned skills to compose, whether it is music for
video and film projects, or creating his own remarkable CDs which are on and/or
will be available on this website.
John lives in the mountains near
Evergreen, Colorado where he continues to write, record and produce in his own
studio. His CDs can also be purchased at many of the fine galleries and
shops in downtown Evergreen. He is currently working on several new CDs
and a project featuring a
single entitled "Live As One" that will be featuring children's vocals.
The song, which has an uplifting and positive message, is designed to
inspire and empower children.
